For every $100.00 donated, contributors can choose one of the five titles listed here. In addition, all donors receiving book gifts will also be given a magnetic postcard-sized world map showing Mecca at the centre of the earth. (See below.) All books are donated by CIC members and friends.

  1. PALESTINE: PEACE, NOT APARTHEID (2006) by Jimmy Carter
Most U.S. writers dealing with Middle East issues have skirted around any overt criticism of Israel's Apartheid-like treatment of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, fearing accusations of "anti-Semitism" by the powerful American pro-Israeli lobby. Carter's best-selling book, however, is a rare exception.
In a recent article about his research and writing, former U.S. President and Nobel Prize winner, Jimmy Carter stated: "For the last 30 years, I have witnessed and experienced the severe restraints on any free and balanced discussion of the facts ... It would be almost politically suicidal for members of Congress to espouse a balanced position between Israel and Palestine, to suggest that Israel comply with international law or to speak in defense of justice or human rights for Palestinians."
  2. THE QUR'AN: 365 SELECTIONS FOR DAILY READING (2003) by Mohamed Elmasry, Ph. D.
This is the first English-language book to offer 365 selected passages from the Qur'an for daily reading. The superb modern translation is clear, accessible, and true to the original Arabic. And because each 15-minute daily excerpt stands alone in the topic or issue it addresses, this is an excellent book for today's fast paced life.
"My aim and purpose throughout has been to make each daily reading able to stand alone without any need for disruptive footnotes or explanations... Rather, I prefer to stand back and allow them to work their miracles in helping the reader to achieve spiritual fitness: they have been potent in the past and I believe they are so again." (From the author's Preface)
  3. SPIRITUAL FITNESS FOR LIFE (2002) by Mohamed Elmasry, Ph. D.
As we begin the new millennium, we are learning to appreciate the true importance of spiritual fitness. We are rediscovering that happiness, success, suffering and pain are formed largely from within and that it is high time to take preventive steps against spiritual "heart disease." We have it in our power to cultivate the soul in its natural journey towards spiritual fitness.
The approach outlined in this book is a social engineering approach, social, as in "friendly" and engineering as in "planned well." This approach, while based on Islamic teachings, draws also from the rich heritage of other faith traditions, from psychology, and from the psycho-spiritual sciences.
Tom Harpur, Toronto Star columnist and one of Canada's best-selling authors in the field of religion and spirituality, said about Spiritual Fitness for Life: "In a culture obsessed by externals and by physicality, it's like a bracing tonic to encounter such a lucid prescription for inner or spiritual fitness."
Professor Sheila McDonough, Department of Religion, Concordia University calls Spiritual Fitness For Life "an engaging encounter with a vigorous Muslim intelligence wrestling with questions about the nature and nurture of the soul."
  4. MUHAMMAD: HIS LIFE BASED ON THE EARLIEST SOURCES (2005) by Dr. Martin Lings
Martin Lings (1909-2005), was formerly Keeper of Oriental Manuscripts in the British Museum and British Library. His distinguished career as author and academic included more than a decade as lecturer at Cairo University. His interest in Arab and Islamic culture led to his becoming a prolific and internationally respected writer on these subjects. Muhammad: His Life... was one of his last books.
"Dr. Lings ... saw beneath the surface of things and helped us to penetrate the veil behind which lies the sacred meaning to so many of life's mysteries. He helped us to look beyond the literal and to comprehend that there are many layers of meaning within the hidden universe - something which science is now at last beginning to recognize through the acknowledgment of an inherent order and harmony to the world about us and within us." -- H.R.H. the Prince of Wales
  5. THE ETHICO-RELIGIOUS CONCEPTS IN THE QUR'AN (2004) by Dr. Toshihiko Izutsu.
Dr. Toshihiko Izutsu (1914-93), was a distinguished scholar of Oriental philosophy and of Islamic thought. During his long career he was a member of: the Japan Academy, the Institute International de Philosophie, and the Imperial Iranian Academy of Philosophy. He was also Professor emeritus of Keio University in Tokyo and a professor at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
"Izutsu shows that for the Qur'an our ethical response to God's actions is religion itself; it is at the same time both ethics and religion." (From the publisher’s description)

BONUS (given with any book) MECCA AT THE CENTRE OF THE WORLD
This new map was designed especially for the Canadian Islamic Congress by University of Waterloo (Canada) professor, Dr. Len Guelke.
"A conventional map contains distortions because the world is round and a map is flat," explains Prof. Guelke. "Such maps can give a very inaccurate idea of the direction and distance to Mecca from other places in the world. On this new world map, the direction of Mecca and the shortest distance is easily measured as a straight line ... It is amazing that Mecca is approximately the centre of the land mass of the world."
As supplies of all the above items are limited, CIC members and friends are invited to donate NOW by mailing a cheque, by filling out a monthly deduction form, or by donating securely on line below.
